History of the Subway® Scholarship Program

The Subway® Scholarship Fund was created to assist college students who have history of working with SUBWAY® restaurants. It also assists the children of SUBWAY® Franchisees and their staffs that meet the same requirements.

This scholarship was established in 1996 to honor the twentieth anniversary of Pete Slomianyj’s commitment to SUBWAY®. A graduate of the University of Connecticut, Pete worked his way through college and was himself a scholarship recipient. He looks forward to repaying those who helped him by offering assistance to college students who have a history with working with SUBWAY® through North Carolina. We are proud of your hard work and scholastic achievement and wish you luck in your future plans.

    “My name is Victoria Ervin and I am a rising senior at North Carolina A&T State University. I am majoring in Business Management with a concentration in Administration and I hope to one day start and invest in several types of business ventures and start-ups. I plan to earn a MBA degree post graduation. I have a passion for innovating human resource departments and to help companies identify the true meaning of diversity, equity, and inclusivity in a workplace environment while valuing a range of ideas and perspectives.”

  • $3,750 Scholarship Winner

    “Tulsi Patel is a Junior at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is majoring in Neuroscience and Medical Anthropology. She enjoys partaking in research in both fields, having conducted a project about the visual system and recently publishing an article about rural healthcare in a UNC journal. She enjoys hands-on service learning opportunities. She currently works with patients in the Child Psychiatric Unit at UNC Health, while leading a volunteer trip to Asheville, NC to combat hunger and homelessness in the area. She is grateful to the Subway Scholarship for giving her the means to continue to pursue the work she is passionate about.”
